
Petro was born in Oldham, Lancashire of Ukrainian and English parentage. Heavily influenced by his Ukrainian background, he has sung and danced with various Ukrainian ensembles around the country and has performed in many concerts and festivals both nationally and internationally. Giving up his career in Marketing, Petro joined the Royal Northern College of Music where he studied with Jeffrey Lawton. There he sang the role of ‘Siward’ in Martin Butler’s ‘Better Place’ and the role of ‘Chekalinsky’ in Tchaikovsky’s ‘Queen of Spades’.
His professional engagements since graduating have seen him sing the roles of ‘Remendado’ in Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, ‘Slim’ in Britten’s ‘Paul Bunyan’ , ‘Vasek’ in Smetana’s ‘The Bartered Bride, ‘Rodolfo’ in Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’ and most notably the role of ‘The Cardinal’ in the world premiere of ‘Light Passing’ by Nicola Lefanu and ‘The Mayor’ in Opera North’s production of ‘The Pied Piper’.
Petro has also sung with the chorus of English National Opera, The National Reisopera of Holland, Scottish Opera, Grange Park Opera and the Buxton Festival and at many Oratorio and Opera Gala concerts.
While now working for the Royal Mail, Petro continues to sing and was involved in The Maher Player’s Parsifal Act 3 project in 2024.
