
Laura Margaret Smith is an award-winning performer who’s operatic roles include Edelknabe (Tannhäuser) and Lehrbube (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) for Bayreuth Festival, Waltraute (Götterdämmerung) for Edinburgh Players Opera Group, Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde) for Mahler Players, Eudamia (Dorilla in Tempe) and Tina (Dinner at Eight – Bolcom) for Wexford Festival Opera, Siebel (Faust) and Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana) for Paisley Opera/Scottish Opera, Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) for Opera Bohemia, Title role Carmen, Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) and Olga (Eugene Onegin) for Edinburgh International Festival Discover Opera, Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for Scottish Opera and Vaila (Hirda – Gareth Williams, Chris Stout) for NOISE/Celtic Connections.
Laura looks forward to covering Waltraute in Opera Forge’s production of Die Walküre later this year.
A member of the acclaimed Bayreuth Festival Chorus for ten years, Laura has sung in productions for Hamburg State Opera, Opera North, Opera Holland Park, Scottish Opera, Opera Mahogany, Retrospect Opera and Byre Opera.
In concert, Laura has performed in the USA, Melbourne, Portugal, Monaco & around Germany. In the UK, Laura has sung at Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Glasgow City Halls, The Queen’s Hall and live on BBC Radio 3. She has sung with the RSNO, Dunedin Consort, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Red Note Ensemble, Psappha Ensemble, Wallace Ensemble and has toured and recorded extensively with contemporary chamber group, Scottish Voices.
Laura is a former Scottish Opera Robertson Scholarship Trust Emerging Artist, a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and alumna of the Georg Solti Accademia, Samling Institute, Britten Pears Arts and Live Music Now.
