“Parsifal is one of the loveliest monuments of sound ever raised to the serene glory of music”
Claude Debussy
The Mahler Players return with their first concerts since the end of the Mahler in Miniature project. La mer (“The Sea”) is one of Debussy’s most enchanting pieces, conjuring up images of the beauty, grandeur and power of the oceans. Presented here in a sparkling new chamber orchestration for twenty players, it keeps all the invention of the original, while giving us the possibility to perform in intimate settings.
Parsifal, Wagner’s final and arguably greatest opera, runs to over four hours in the original. We present just under an hour of orchestral highlights, including the Prelude to Act 1, Flowermaidens’ Scene and Good Friday Music, all connected into one continuous tone poem. Other than the Overture to Act 1, this music has never before been performed in the Highlands!
Whether you’ve known this music for years or have never heard an orchestra live, join us for an evening, enrich your festive season and be enchanted by some of the most bewitching and sensuous music ever written.
“Outstanding…Scotland’s best-kept musical secret” Michael Tumelty, The Herald Scotland, 27th September 2016
