The Mahler Players open the 2023/24 season with Mahler’s 6th Symphony, sometimes nicknamed the “Tragic”. Composed in 1903/4, when Mahler was at the height of his powers, it features some of his most moving and daring music, from the beautiful theme dedicated to his wife Alma in the first movement to the gut-wrenching hammer blows in the finale.
Join the Mahler Players in the beautiful surroundings of Inverness Cathedral and Strathpeffer Pavilion and be moved by this great symphony, receiving its first performance here in the Highlands in a new version for chamber orchestra by Rob Farmer.
Saturday 16th September, 8pm – Inverness Cathedral
Sunday 17th September, 3pm – Strathpeffer Pavilion
Paper copies of the programme notes are provided for free at all of our concerts.
These concerts are generously supported by the Inverness Common Good Fund, HRI-Munro Architecture and the Members of the Mahler Circle.
