Stravinsky Dumbarton Oaks
Stravinsky Pulcinella Suite
Beethoven Symphony No. 6 Pastorale
Saturday 4th May 8pm at Inverness Cathedral
Sunday 5th May 3pm at Strathpeffer Pavilion
Conducted by Tomas Leakey
We invite you to join us on 4th and 5th May 2024 as we continue our exploration of Beethoven’s symphonies, this time with the Sixth. Nicknamed the Pastoral, this Symphony contains some of Beethoven’s most memorable and tuneful music. Unusually, he gives each of the five movements titles, which include “the awakening of cheerful feelings upon arrival in the countryside”, an idyllic “scene by a stream”, a scherzo titled “merrymaking of the country folk”, a ferocious storm and finally a shepherd’s song of thanks.
The symphony will be preceded by two works by Stravinsky: Dumbarton Oaks and the Pulcinella Suite. With endless rhythmic fascinations and inspiration from Baroque composers Bach and Pergolesi these works showcase the virtuosity of our musicians and present Stravinsky at his life-enhancing best. We are excited to return to his music for the first time since our debut in 2013.
We hope you will join us over the Bank Holiday weekend in the characterful surroundings of Inverness Cathedral or Strathpeffer Pavilion as we perform this exhilarating music live.
Physical copies of the concert programmes will be available for free at the concert.
